Fireplaces are becoming one of my favourite venue features to style, they can create warmth and add ambiance and intimacy to any space. They can also be used as a beautiful ceremony backdrop and there are endless ways you can style them to suit your wedding aesthetic.
Think simple, minimal styling made up of layered, textural foliage or hues of dried and preserved flowers. Or over the top styling showcasing an abundance of opulent florals which can also be found within your bouquet and centrepieces. You could also experiment by adding in additional pieces of décor such as candlesticks and taper candles, ceramic pots and vases or assorted sizes of cylinder vase hurricanes filled with pillar candles.
If your venue has a no flame policy or does not approve of glass hurricanes at the foot of the fireplace you could replace them with ‘fake’ LED flameless candles which are a much safer option.
To make styling this existing element within your wedding venue a little less overwhelming we have put together our favourite fireplace looks for you to get inspired by. Enjoy!
Flowers
You could use preserved, dried flowers or fresh flowers and foliage. Using a mixture of flower and foliage types as well as introducing vessels and pots will create depth and height within your styling. The layering also gives an additional element of interest.
Flowers and Candles
Adding candlelight into your styling will create a beautiful, soft, romantic atmosphere.
Foliage
Styling your fireplace entirely with foliage (or very few flowers) gives off more of a modern vibe. Look for different colours and textures within the foliage so your arrangement is far from flat, green and boring. Play with branches, ivy and ferns and have some fun! This would have to be my favourite look and it may even save you some money as foliage is generally less expensive than flowers.
Ceremony
Use any of these looks or a combination of them to create the perfect backdrop of your ceremony.
